KHAUB NCAWS LAUS (TXIV NEEJ)

Women (mainly the wife) prepare a funeral outfit for men in the case that they suddenly get sick and pass away. These outfits are typically stored in suitcases along with other HMoob outfits. This set includes a khau noog, a hemped funerary shoe for the journey  to cross the caterpillar river on the way back to the HMoob ancestral home.

“As a displaced and stateless people, the afterlife is seen as a journey home to a place where we can reunite with their loved ones. When I see ib cev khaub ncaws laus, I am reminded that HMoob people may one day heal from displacement and war trauma on our journey home.”
